Accufoam AF1 Open-Cell Spray Foam
Accufoam AF1 is our main open-cell foam. It is what we spray on attic rooflines and interior walls in Houston houses. Every number on this page comes from the manufacturer's technical data sheet.

Accufoam AF1 is made by Creative Polymer Solutions of Birmingham, Alabama, and we buy it through Pro Foam. The manufacturer describes it as a two-component, one-to-one by volume, spray-applied polyurethane foam for thermal insulation and air barrier assemblies.
Where we use it
Open-cell foam is what we use on attic rooflines and interior walls. For rim joists, crawl spaces, steel buildings and anywhere water contact is possible we use closed-cell foam, such as Accufoam CC-HFO. The Department of Energy notes that open-cell foam should not be used below ground level, where it could absorb water.

Fire safety
Spray foam is combustible. The data sheet lists the ignition barrier and thermal barrier coatings tested with this product, and the building code decides which one your space needs. Ask us which applies to yours.

Common questions
The data sheet lists R-3.7 at 1 inch and R-13 at 3.5 inches, tested to ASTM C518. Your scope states the applied depth, so you can work out what went in.
The data sheet gives a 1-hour re-entry and a 1-hour re-occupancy period with 10 air changes per hour of ventilation, tested to ASTM D8445. We confirm the time for your job before the day.
The manufacturer lists it for thermal insulation and air barrier assemblies. How well a whole house is sealed also depends on the rest of the assembly, which is why we look at the house first.
