When old insulation has to come out
Removal earns its place job by job. Plenty of attics are fine to work over. But there are situations where leaving the old material in place makes the new work pointless, or unsafe, and those are worth being direct about.
The common ones are rodent activity, water damage from a roof leak or a burst line, smoke, and material that has settled or been walked flat until it is doing very little. There is also the practical case: top plates, chases and can lights have to be visible before they can be sealed.
We quote removal as its own line so you can see exactly what it costs, and decide on it separately from the insulation that follows.

When removal is the right call
Any one of these on its own is usually enough.
Water has been in it
Wet material stays wet in a Houston attic, and it stays that way.
Rodent or pest activity
Droppings and nesting material are a contamination issue.
It has settled or been walked flat
Compressed loose fill is doing a fraction of what it was installed to do.

How we do it
The point of a removal job is that the mess leaves the building. That is most of the work.
- Written scope, priced separately So removal and replacement are two numbers on the scope.
- Containment and route protection Floors, stairs and the path to the truck are covered before anything moves.
- Vacuum extraction Material goes into sealed bags at the attic and out along a protected route.
- Deck and framing inspected Once it is clear we can see the roof deck properly, and we tell you what we find.
- Sanitizing where warranted Discussed and priced on the scope.
- Disposal It leaves with us.

We look at what is up there, including why it failed, because that often matters more than the material itself.

The route out is prepared before anything is disturbed, then we extract, inspect and clean, and walk the space with you before new material goes in.

Asked about this service
It depends on what is up there. If it is dry, clean, uncompacted and clear of the ceiling plane we need to seal, it can often stay. We will tell you that, and price only the work the attic actually needs.
It is a dusty job, which is why containment and route protection are lines on the scope. Material is vacuumed into sealed bags at the attic and carried out sealed.
On smaller attics, often yes. On larger ones it is usually two visits, and the scope will say which.
The visit is free. Someone comes out, looks at the building and gives you a written scope and a price, and the decision stays yours.
