Houston Spray Foam Insulation: The Questions We Get Asked Every Week
Every week at Phantom Foam we talk to homeowners across Greater Houston who are researching spray foam for the first time. The same questions come up over and over—especially when people start thinking about how our heat, humidity, and tight attics change the game.
Here are the ones we hear most, with straight answers so you can decide if spray foam is right for your home.
1. How much does spray foam insulation cost in Houston? It depends on the home size, foam type (open-cell vs closed-cell), and areas treated (attic, walls, rim joists, crawl space). In 2026, most full-home jobs range from $4,000–$12,000 for residential properties around Katy, Cypress, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Pearland, Conroe, and the inner loop. Closed-cell usually costs more but performs better in our humid climate. → See our Houston spray foam pricing guide for more details.
2. Is spray foam safe for my family and pets? Yes—once cured. During installation there is a strong odor, so we require everyone (people, pets, fish tanks) to leave the house for 24–48 hours. We use low-VOC, water-blown or HFO-based foams that meet strict indoor air quality standards. After curing, off-gassing is negligible and many families with allergies report better air quality because foam seals out dust and pollen. → Learn more about how we keep families & pets safe during jobs.
3. How long does a spray foam job take? Most residential attics or full-home jobs take 1–2 days. Larger homes, metal buildings, or commercial spaces can go 2–4 days. We prep the day before, spray efficiently, and clean up thoroughly so you’re back in your home quickly. → Check out our installation process overview for what to expect.
4. Does spray foam help with Houston humidity and mold? Yes—especially closed-cell foam. It acts as a vapor barrier, stopping warm, moist outdoor air from condensing inside walls or attics. That’s huge in our 80%+ humidity summers and helps prevent hidden mold growth that fiberglass often can’t stop. → Read more about humidity & moisture control in Houston homes.
5. Can spray foam be installed in existing homes? Absolutely. We do retrofits all the time—attics, rim joists, crawl spaces, even walls without major tear-outs. We drill small holes if needed, spray, and patch cleanly. Most homes don’t require big demo. → See examples on our residential services page.
6. How long does spray foam last? Properly installed spray foam lasts the life of the home (50+ years). It doesn’t sag, settle, or lose R-value like fiberglass or cellulose can in humid attics. We back it with long warranties on materials and workmanship.
7. What’s the difference between open-cell and closed-cell foam? Open-cell is softer, lighter, great for soundproofing and filling odd spaces. Closed-cell is denser, higher R-value per inch, moisture-resistant, and adds structural strength—usually the better choice for Houston’s climate. → Compare them in detail on our blog about types of foam.
8. Do you serve my area? We cover the entire Greater Houston metro and beyond—from the inner loop to Katy, Cypress, The Woodlands, Spring, Sugar Land, Pearland, Conroe, Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita, League City, Friendswood, Missouri City, Baytown, Pasadena, and surrounding spots. → See the full service area map and list here.
